Since 2010, the St. Louis Area Foodbank has delivered 3000 “Senior Food Boxes” each month to member agencies in Madison and St. Clair Counties in Illinois, which are then directly distributed to low-income seniors.  These boxes are built by our volunteers, with food provided by the USDA, specially chosen for its high nutritional value for seniors. We have just been awarded 600 additional boxes and we are working with our agencies to identify seniors-in-need to begin receiving them as soon as next month.

One agency, Mt. Nebo Church in Madison, IL (right across the McKinley Bridge, in St. Clair County) is conducting an exhaustive outreach program, and we are looking for volunteers to assist in this effort.  Individuals or small teams will be asked to visit potential clients in the Madison / Venice area and assist them in filling out a short application form to qualify them for this monthly nutritional supplement.  We’ll begin in the next week.
